Overland's Dr. Morocco On Emergency Room Overload.

The Problems

The Problems
Outlined below are the most critical problems affecting safety on Overland Avenue, as discussed by its residents.
1. Traffic Accidents used to occur on a regular basis at the corner of Overland Ave. and Tennessee Ave. until the OAC was successful in documenting these accidents, and a four-way stop sign was installed.  This simple act brought the number of accidents at this intersection down to zero , thereby saving countless lives.

2. Traffic Accidents also occur on a regular basis on Overland Ave. as residents try to get in and out of their driveways while north and south bound traffic fails to yield to residents, thus crashing into the homeowners' vehicle.

3. The left turn arrow at Olympic and Overland that mysteriously appeared in 1999 that added substantial additional traffic onto this small residential street.  It shifted traffic off other residential streets in our area causing significant health issues due to vehicle pollution on Overland, and causing spillage onto our neighboring streets to the immediate east and west..

4. Overweight Trucks regularly use Overland Ave. as a cut through in violation of the posted "no vehicles over 6000 pounds/3 tons" signs. The result is torn up streets full of pot holes, destruction of the trees lining the street as the truck shave off the branches as they go past and noise pollution.

5. Trash, Debris and Pollution from idling vehicles stuck in traffic, which ends up in the front yards of the homes along Overland Ave. and is a persistent annoyance and health hazard to local residents.

6. Unsafe Pedestrian Passage at corners near and around Westwood Charter Elementary School. There are many families with young children living on and around Overland Avenue who attend Westwood Charter Elementary School. It is extremely dangerous for them to cross at the corners of Overland Ave. between Pico Blvd. and Santa Monica Blvd. due to speeding vehicles as well as vehicles that do not yield to pedestrians at currently posted Stop signs.

7. Difficulty of getting basic emergency service on Overland Ave., particularly during peak hours.
